Indonesia has a large freshwater fish farming industry, mainly small-scale traditional farms, producing tilapia, carp, Clarias and pangasius catfish. In 2019, the fisheries and the fishing industry contributed 2.65 percent to the Indonesian gross domestic product (GDP). Indonesia is the world's second largest fish producer after China and its tuna fisheries are among the largest and most productive worldwide.

Future opportunities for the industry will be mainly in the fish feed market as domestic demand continues to rise with its growing population. While the industry struggles with changing demands in feed prices, composition and quality, rising costs of energy and the push to develop sustainable feeds, it has to support the farming sector, upstream and downstream. Some feed producers have developed fast growing genetic strains for the Clarias catfish and tilapia. At the same time, new entrants into the industry, such as multinationals from China and Thailand will increase the competitive landscape.

This Indonesian customer signed a contract with Herm Machinery to purchase a complete floating fish feed production machine line with an hourly output of 1000-1500 KG. The 1-1.5 ton/hour floating fish feed production machine line can produce 50,000 tons of cooked pellet feed and expanded feed. This set of equipment has advanced technology and the production process is currently the most advanced professional aquatic feed processing technology at home and abroad, such as: the most popular product of the special granulator manufatured by HERM. At present, the project has been put into use and customer feedback is running well!
